082 – We Review The 2019 Vitus Escarpe 29 VRX with Freewheelin’
Robert from Freewheelin’ – And its bike review time!
Its episode number Eighty Two and we are teaming up with Robert from the very cool and insightful online MTB website called Freewheelin’. This is somewhat of a first for the podcast as we have never done a bike review before so it was great to get Robert on the show and talk us through his latest review, the 2019 Vitus Escarpe VRX.
Robert was kindly asked by Chain Reaction Cycles to take the bike for a number of weeks, put it through its paces, test it out, write a review on his thoughts and post it on his website (see below for website review). So after having Robert on the show back in Episode 079 (listen here) we got chatting and decided why not come back on the podcast and tell us all about his experience with riding and reviewing the 2019 Escarpe.
So Robert was kind enough to come on and tell us all about it. If you are in the market for a new bike or an up-grade then this is a must listen. We don’t get to technical, we don’t go into crazy angles and percentages, we talk about what you and me as riders would want to know about buying a new bike. Value, weight, different specs available, how it rides, 27.5 or 29er and if it will work for you.
- How Robert got to review the Vitus Escarpe VRX
- Why he decided to try the 29er over the 27.5
- How it differs from his GT
- What kind of spec the VRX runs
- What price point options are available
- How he initially got on with the bike
- The biggest change he felt from his GT
- Price Vs. Value
- Good points & bad points
- Suspension set-up
- How the bike worked on his local trails from climbing to downhill
- What Robert liked most about the Vitus Escarpe VRX
- Would he buy one
- The next bike Robert will be reviewing
I wanted to do this episode for a couple of reasons. First, we have never reviewed a product on the show before, yes we have chatted to bike companies and brands but we have never actually reviewed a product and secondly, I really wanted to know Roberts thoughts on the Escarpe as I am in the market for a new bike myself and was maybe a little selfish in wanting to know how good this bike really was. After all when you have guys like Glyn O’Brien, Jack Devlin and Nathan McComb killing it on these things, the bike has to be impressive. I was intrigued.
I really enjoyed doing this episode and you know you are going to get a truthful response from Robert. It was interesting to have a simple chat about a bike from the end users point of view and I think what is really interesting is you know Robert has tested the bike on your local trails, so you know when he talks about specific sections of trail where the bike performed well, you know what he is talking about. You can easily relate it to your own experiences of that trail or area.
So check out the links below, read Roberts review, take a look at the Vitus Escarpe range and if it something you are interested in why not give Chain Reaction Belfast a shout and book yourself a test ride. This may be a little more difficult if you are one of my listeners from the US, mainland Europe or Brazil, but you know what I mean. So If you are like me and in the market for a new bike, this sounds like a good place to start. Thanks for listening. Enjoy the show!
