187 – Injury Rehabilitation and Prevention with Olympus Pro
Today’s Guest:
Yannis Konstantinomanolakis: Owner and Founder of the Specialist Performance Coaching Company, Olympuspro.
On episode #187 we are chatting with Yannis Konstantinomanolakis, owner of Olympuspro, the specialist performance coaching company. Yannis and his crew specialise in helping Motocross and Downhill MTB athletes and offer everything from bespoke training plans to post rehabilitation.
Yannis moved from Greece to the UK a number of years ago to start a career as a personal trainer and strength and conditioning coach, in which he gained his L3 Personal Training and L4 Strength & Conditioning Qualification. Yannis is no stranger to training as he competed for the Greek National Gymnastics Team for 11 years.
After this he found a passion for motocross, but like so many of us realised just how expensive the sport is at any level, but this had sown the seed for fast two wheel action so naturally he found his way to downhill mountain biking and the rest is history. He decided to concentrate his coaching skills on helping motocross and downhill riders and Olympuspro was born.
Join us as we chat about the mountain biking scene in Greece, recovering from a nasty ankle injury, injury prevention & rehabilitation and what we can all do on and off the bike to help recover and get back riding.

As mountain bikers it is only a matter of time before we end up breaking something or straining something that takes us off our bikes, out of the gym and resting up for a number of weeks, if not months. Sadly this is part of the sport and something we all will most likely have to deal with at some point and to be honest with you, if there wasn’t that element of risk, that fear of stacking it, ultimately resulting in that rush of adrenaline, would we still do it? This answer will be different for a lot of people, but I have a feeling it plays a part in it for all of us.
Now, I am not saying that we want to get injured, of course not, but if you have been unfortunate enough to have had that visit to the hospital or if you have been lucky to escape the trip thus far, there are lots of things we can do to help prevent injury in the first place. We chat with Yannis about what we can do off the bike and in the gym to help insure ourselves that little more, that if the fateful day comes we are prepared and have done everything in our power to prevent that bone from breaking or that knee from twisting keeping us off the bike.
We also chat about the other side of an injury and how best to recover, what steps to take and how to get through the process in the correct way, helping us get back on the bike at the right time etc. We all as mountain bikers after an injury are super keen to get back on the bike and get stuck in head first. That for the most part is the type of person the mountain bike scene attracts. But, how do we know we are not doing more damage than good and risking a healthy future of riding just because we want to get back out there? It is a mistake that a lot of us will and have made. We chat to Yannis about the correct method to attack this issue, the common mistakes we can make and how to know you are at full strength both mentally and physically and ready to go 100%.
Put your feet up for an hour, tune in and find out how we can all prevent injury with a few changes in our gym routines and how to get over the mental and physical issues recovering from an injury. Plus a load of other helpful information.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy the show!
