It was a blast having Ellen on the podcast. She is so stoked on bikes and racing that it is infectious. Ellen is only 19 and studying hard at uni, but you can tell her true passion lies on two wheels. I am sure between her degree, racing passions and skills on a bike she will either land a racing job or some form of engineering position in the world of MTB. If she doesn’t we are all missing out.

Ellen has been racing from around the age of 12 or 13 and fell in love with the sport from the very first time she got between the tape. She started her racing adventures on a downhill bike, but five years later she found the enduro scene and has never looked back. Ellen loves the social vibe that enduro racing brings and she much prefers having a few runs to average out her score than everything resting on that one top to bottom run in downhill.

Ellen has been lucky enough to hook up with the guys and gals at Bird Cycleworks helping her fund her way to the EWS and also grab herself some sweet rides in the process. We chat about how sponsorship (this includes parents!) helps these young riders chase after their dreams and push themselves to become the best they can be, it is far from an easy road. Every spare penny goes into racing, from bike parts, plane tickets, accommodation, event tickets, food, the list just goes on and on. So when Ellen won the latest round of The DirtFund Project and bagged herself £1000 she was over the moon. And no she hasn’t spent it down the pub, she has smartly lodged it in her bank account to help pay entrance fees for the upcoming 2022 EWS race season. Now that’s dedication!

So put your feet up, take the weight off and chill out as we chat to Ellen about racing, funding, having surgery (twice) and how you can best get involved in racing as a young woman. Plus much much more!

Enjoy the show!
